Description

The Seleucid Empire was founded by Seleucus I Nicator (305 - 281 BCE) one of the Diadochi or successors of Alexander the Great. A general in Alexander’s army he emerged from the chaos that followed Alexander’s death, proclaiming himself King and establishing a dynasty that was to rule over much of the Near East for three centuries. Initially stretching from the Aegean to the Indus Valley, it was a superpower of the Hellenistic age, it ultimately withered away until the last remnants were absorbed by the Rome in 63 BCE.
