FAQs

Welcome to the Educational Coin FAQ page! Here, you'll find answers to common questions about our products, services, and policies to help you make the most informed decisions.

General Information

What types of products do you offer?

We are the world’s leading supplier of wholesale coins and banknotes, offering modern coins and paper money sourced directly from the central banks of origin, dating from the late 19th century to the present. Our inventory includes over one million Greek, Roman, Judaean, Byzantine, Indian, Medieval, Islamic, and Historical coins. Additionally, we sell curated boxes that include stories on the history, educational, and economic significance of the coins and banknotes, which can be customized to fit various themes, ranging from affordable to premium types of packaging.

Can I customize the stories and packaging for the curated boxes?

Yes, all our packaged boxes can be customized. We can tailor the stories to fit your needs and offer a range of packaging options, from budget to deluxe. For bulk orders, we can create custom certificates of authenticity with your company branding.

Do you sell authenticated coins?

Yes, we sell genuine NGC slabs from Roman, Medieval, Judaean, and Modern times. We personally send our coins to NGC for grading and authentication to ensure the best quality and value.

Do the images of NGC slabs and ancient coins represent the exact coin I will receive?

No, our website's images of NGC slabs and various ancient coins do not represent the exact coin you will receive. Since these are ancient coins, each one varies slightly from type to grade to period. However, we ensure that each image represents the general look and condition you can expect.

What grading scale do you use?

A: We use the following grading scale at Educational Coin:

  • MS = Mint State
  • AU = About Uncirculated
  • XF = Extremely Fine
  • VF = Very Fine
  • F = Fine
  • VG = Very Good

--------------------------------------

  • U = Uncirculated
  • C = Circulated (a blanket term for coins that are not UNC)
  • CL = Cleaned

--------------------------------------

  • LG = Low Grade
  • MG = Medium Grade
  • HG = High Grade
  • Promo = Promotional Grade

Authentication and Expertise

Who authenticates your coins?

David Laties, John Aiello, and Robin L. Danzinger have over 150 years of combined experience handling all types of coins and banknotes. Robin, a long-time American Numismatic Association member who has worked with us for over 30 years, authenticates all our coins. Few individuals in the industry match his expertise and eye.

How do I know the coins are genuine?

At Educational Coin, authenticity is our top priority. We have never sold counterfeit, fake, or replica numismatics, and we have a spotless record with zero complaints about authenticity. Our expert numismatist meticulously verifies each coin. You can trust that every coin you purchase from us is genuine and accurately described.

Buying and Selling

Do you buy coins and banknotes?

We are a wholesale dealer, so we are generally interested in wholesale lots, not individual pieces. Other than certain pennies, nickels, and dimes with war dates, we do not purchase U.S. coins or paper money. We are happy to consider any large group of coins or banknotes.

How should I show you what I have to sell?

Spread the coins and/or notes on a flat surface, take pictures with your phone, and send the images to order@educationalcoin.com. If we’re interested, we’ll let you know the next steps.

Can customers visit your warehouse?

We are not a storefront, but if you would like to tour our warehouse and make a purchase, you can schedule a meeting five days in advance using this link. If you don't schedule a meeting, there may not be someone available to give you a tour.

Can customers make purchases in person at coin shows?

Yes, customers can purchase in person by visiting us at the annual coin shows: the Florida United Numismatic Show in January and July, the American Numismatic Association Show in August, and the Baltimore Whitman Coin Show in November.
