Description
Nerva was the first of the ”Five Good Emperors“ and it is under him that the organized and peaceful transfer of power to a chosen ”adopted“ successor begins. On the assassination of Domitian, Nerva was appointed emperor by the Senate, he was a natural choice as a former consul and respected statesman. During his short reign he effectively acted as a care-taker, choosing the future Trajan, as his successor. He died of natural causes in 98 CE.
